Comic blog cont'd.
So we drove around downtown Missoula, looking for a place to get some food and relax after our marathon drive.
The first thing we saw was this guy, talking on his cell phone with the bumper sticker reading "I wonder how well you would drive with that cell phone stuck up your ass?". He was too distracted by his call to realize he could have been turning, but it gave us a chance to take his picture.
The second amazing thing we saw: A banner for the annual brewfest happening RIGHT THEN. Wahoo!
A $10 entrance fee seemed pretty steep, even if it did include a sweet tiny plastic mug, but then a guy outside the gate gave us his eight extra drink tickets, out of the blue.
Thanks random guy! We used them to buy a hot dog for me and a sauerkraut/american cheese sandwich for Mieka. Here in Montana, they don't eat no gardenburgers!
Apparently EVERYBODY IN MISSOULA wears outdoorsy kid clothes. Note the flock of Chacos:
This is how everybody dressed. It was really, really confusing to see all these 20-something kayak/climb/ski bums and not know them. Mieka and I played the "Wow, that person looks JUST like so-and-so" game for a while.
Then we made friends with Melissa . . .
...Andy, and Andy's dog (Chance... I think?).
Melissa used to live in Portland and was excited to email us about all her favorite places.
Andy is a photographer ... supposedly. We said that (nerd voice) we'd link to his website on our blog... but he doesn't have a website. Yet. How are we supposed to know if he's a photographer or not if he doesn't have a website? He did take our picture... I guess that counts for something.
Missoula, like Eugene, has a river (Clark Fork of the Columbia) flowing through the middle of downtown. Unlike in Eugene, the river will not make you grow extra arms. We did act silly, but that's not the river's fault.

Actually, That river will make you grow extra arms. Just up stream you may have noticed the dredging, yeah, well, they are digging out the heavy metal laden sediment from mine tailings. They have all been conveniently collected just upstream of Missoula by a now decommisioned reservoir. Yikes! Sorry you guys didn't make it over to Bozeman
ReplyDeleteHave a safe drive home,
Dave
Haha... good to know. That's really sketch. There's so much mining around here. Butte blew me away.
ReplyDeleteDave, just so you know, we're really, really sad we didn't go see you.
Love to you and Amy!
You guys sure look beautiful next to the clark fork! I'm glad you got a glimpse of my world for a while!
