mountain landscape sewn drawing I made on the bus ride
The highlights of the trip were the landscape and the company. I made an instant best friend in my seat mate Kendra, we had everything in common. We both carried embroidery supplies and colored pens to play with and swapped stories of international travel, among other things. Our kindly bus driver gave everyone a lesson in etiquette in his announcements - "Please keep your conversation to a low murmur, as others may be trying to sleep, and please respect your seat-mates' privacy...they may not be interested in what you have to say."
Despite the bus driver's announcements, the woman seated directly behind us kept us all engaged for three hours between Butte and Livingston as she volunteered her winding life stories, all at top volume with intimate detail. Bless her heart. One gem "Oh, I didn't even date until I was 19, when I fell off a horse, and they told me I'd never ride again. After that, boys became a necessity."
Livingston is a windswept quaint Montana town with old west style store fronts and friendly folks. Thom and Christina picked me up and I spent Saturday evening and Sunday with them at their sweet home on the range. I got to see their life in a nutshell, while we explored back roads looking for wildlife, visited the church where they both work, saw their cozy and light filled home, met friends, toured Yellowstone (see next post!) and debated world views. A special reunion with the witty, silly, powerful, heart centered man who raised me and his deeply insightful, loving wife. What a great visit! I love you both so much!
